Home FAQs Second Passports and Citizenships Aren’t second passports just the province of terrorists and drug lords?
Aren’t second passports just the province of terrorists and drug lords?

Some of the longest running ‘economic citizensip’ programs (ie, passports for cash) such as Ireland, Belize and Grenada were closed down fast in the wake of 9/11. The excuse was that second passports can be used by terrorists. The reality is somewhat different.

All the 9/11 hijackers were in the USA on their original home country passports with legally issued visas. There is no evidence of suspected terrorists ever having bought passports of convenience. And, if you think about it logically, there is no particular reason why they would want to. If you are a potential suicide bomber, why spend $50,000 on a legal second passport when for $1,000 a coyote at the Mexican border will smuggle you into the USA with your weapons?

No, the reality is governments have realized that second passports help their top taxpayers to reduce their tax burdens. Second passports help people work or start new lives abroad. Second passports improve the lot of richer, more productive citizens – by reducing the degree of control that the government has over individuals. That reduction of control is precisely what politicians fear.

That is why the mainstream media is being fed the view that getting a second passport is somehow illegal, unpatriotic or dirty. It is none of these. Bye Bye Big brother readers are better informed.
