As a foreigner you can live as a welcome guest in any number of countries around the world. Tourists in known tourist areas are sometimes the target of petty crime, but serious crime is usually aimed at locals with visible wealth.

More importantly, you will of course choose where to live based on careful research. In nearly every country there are zones you would not want to enter alone, and there are other places where people still don’t bother to lock their front doors. As a foreigner moving in, you can choose the latter areas.
